A litte piece of the old route from Tokyo to Kyoto during the Edo period, called Nakasendo? Then we recommend the trail between Magome and Tsumago along the Kiso Valley. It is 8 kilometers long and takes walkers around 2-3 hours. You will pass forest, fields and houses of locals. During some part of your way you will have to walk on asphalt. At around half of the way you may stop at a traditional-style house, get some snacks and enjoy tea. According to Japan Guide there is even a baggage forwardwing service between Magome and Tsumago.
